Break Free from Negative Self-Talk
/I want to share something personal with you today. I signed up for a Yoga Teacher Training which incorporates the Chakras with 12 Steps in Recovery. I was so excited that this came together rather quickly. The day of the first training, I received the book I needed and excitedly set up my yoga space and place for note taking. I had some extra time so I did a couple extra tasks, but something was niggling at me. I looked again at my welcome e-mail and realized I hadn’t calculated my time correctly and the class had already started! I quickly went to log onto the meeting and the system rejected me. I was so upset. I was sure it was all my fault for being late. And, I did exactly what I teach not to do. I started in on bashing myself. You know the words: Loser, Disorganized, Scatterbrain, etc. OOPH! I had to sit back for a moment and wonder where this was coming from. One, it made me realize how much this class meant to me, and Two, I realize in all of the negativity coming at us from so many sources lately, I hadn’t been giving myself the love and compassion I need.
(**As it turned out, because I joined on the last day, they hadn’t updated the system which controlled who was allowed in the online training. It is all being rectified very nicely.)
Negative self-talk can feel like an unshakable habit, but the good news? It’s something we can change.
Why It Matters:
🔹 Your Words Shape Your Reality – The way you speak to yourself directly impacts your confidence and choices.
🔹 It Affects Your Well-being – Constant self-criticism increases stress and keeps you in a cycle of negativity.
🔹 It Limits Your Growth – When you believe you "can't" do something, you often don't even try.
How to Shift Your Inner Dialogue:
Here are a few journal prompts to help you reframe negative self-talk:
✨ What is a negative thought I keep repeating? Where did it come from?
✨ If my best friend said this about themselves, what would I tell them instead?
✨ What is one small way I can show myself kindness today?
✨ How would my life change if I believed the opposite of my negative thought?
A Gift for You:
To support you in this journey, I’ve created a Self-Love Meditation to help quiet your inner critic and reconnect with kindness. Take a few moments to listen and let it guide you back to self-compassion.
You deserve to speak to yourself with the same love and encouragement you give others. Let’s start today.
