Winter Blues and Cacao

It's normal to feel a little down or lethargic during the winter months, especially if you live in a place with shorter days and longer periods of darkness like I do This phenomenon is known as seasonal affective disorder (SAD). This is one of the reasons I advise you to slow down this month. Thoughtfully envision your goals and intentions for the year, but go easy on yourself without guilt. Here are some tips for maintaining a positive mindset during the winter months:

1. Get outside: Even if it's cold, try to spend some time outside each day. The natural light can help improve your mood and boost your vitamin D levels.

2. Exercise: Regular physical activity has been shown to improve mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression.

3. Stay connected: Make an effort to stay connected with friends and loved ones, even if you can't see them in person.

4. Practice self-care: Take care of yourself by getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and finding time to relax and do things you enjoy.

5. Seek professional help: If you're struggling with feelings of sadness, anxiety, or hopelessness that are interfering with your daily life, consider talking to a mental health professional.

6. Consider light therapy: Light therapy, which involves sitting in front of a special lamp that emits bright light, can be helpful for people with SAD.

7. Find activities that bring joy: Make a list of things that bring you joy and try to do at least one of them each day. This could be something as simple as reading a good book or going for a walk.

Remember, it's okay to have off days and to feel a little down from time to time. The most important thing is to reach out for help if you need it and to take care of yourself. It is also helpful to create rituals that promote our sense of strength and good cheer.

Remember, our psychological well-being has a direct impact on the body’s immune response, which is so essential during the flu season.
